How long would it take to drive to Iowa from North Carolina? Don't have to be exact. Would like to here from people who have drove it before.

½ replied: "driving to des moines from raleigh, for instance, would be around 1120 miles. so assuming you spend most of your time driving, it would probably take 2 days"

upkar k replied: "17 hours 51 minutes as per google."

toodd replied: "about 2.5 days if good weather, 500 miles a day. Not good idea in winter. Must monitor road condition of icy rains every few hours, and carry blanket, tire chain. Worst temperature is -30 sometimes."

If you have your learners permit in the state of Iowa, can you drive in the state of Illinois? If you are 14 and have your learners permit in Iowa (which allows you to have your learners permit at 14) can you drive in the state of illinois? (Which you can get your permit at 15) Although you can't get your permit at 14 in Illinois, if you have a legal permit in Iowa, can you drive in Illinois?

cynblawoo replied: "wow someone asked about illinois and flordia earlier...butt...all state rules are different. most states have laws then when you only have your permit you can not drive out of state. so your answer would be no."

nibsub20 replied: "Most likely no, most (if not all) states say that you cannot drive outside of the state you got your permit in."

hasse_john replied: "it should say on the permit. (it is called 'restrictions')"

Is it safe to drive across Iowa (I-80) this week, due to the floods? We're leaving from Chicago tomorrow, not sure if the roads are open in Iowa. Thanks.

UCANTCME replied: "I would first check with the department of transportation before you do anything..."

StanS replied: "Where ever they allow you to drive should be ok. "...Interstate 80, Iowa’s busiest route for interstate travelers and commercial truck drivers, will be closed in eastern Iowa sometime Friday afternoon because of rapidly rising floodwaters, Iowa Department of Transportation officials said today. Floodwaters from the Cedar River are expected to top the east- and westbound lanes of I-80 at milepost 266 in Cedar County, just west of the Iowa 38 interchange at exit 267, state officials said. Preparations are being to close the road, which is expected to remain shut down for two to three days, officials said. Drivers are urged to avoid going through Iowa if possible. The planned detours for through traffic are as follows. Westbound I-80 traffic: Take the Iowa 38 exit (number 267). Go north on Iowa 38 to U.S. 30. Then go west on U.S. 30 to Cedar Rapids. Then go south on I-380 to I-80 at Coralville. Eastbound I-80 traffic: Take the I-380 north exit at Coralville (exit 239). Go north on I-380 to U.S. 30 in Cedar Rapids. Go east on U.S. 30 to Iowa 38. Then south on Iowa 38.""

Can I drive in Wisconsin with an Iowa Intruction Permit? I got my Iowa Instruction Permit three months ago and want to know if I can drive in Wisconsin legally with it because my Dad lives there. I tried the Iowa and Wisconsin DOT websites and called the Iowa DMV, no luck. I have been unable to get to the Wisconsin DMV or get them on the phone so I posted here. Thanks for any help!

Kraftee replied: "My hunch says that the licensing laws of the state that issued your license would apply, no matter where you drive, and the rules of the road in the state in which you are operating the car would apply. But, here's the Wisconsin site that you can check out for yourself."

How do I get a permit to drive to work in Iowa? I've had my licence here cancled due to fines owed in another state (but can't pay them if I lose my job). I need to find out how to be able to drive to work still.

oklatom replied: "Find someone, finance company or relative perhaps, that will loan you enough to pay off the fines in the other state. Pay it off, get a receipt, apply for your license back. When you get it turn it in for a license in the state where you now reside. Drive to work, pay off your loan. Don't get any more tickets."

fisherwoman replied: "You may qualify for a hardship license, allowing you to drive to and from work, only. It may not be possible, but worth a try."

Legal to drive with headphones on in Iowa? Is it legal to drive with headphones on in Iowa? Not both ears just one covered (the kind that goes in your ear). I got an mp3 and was wondering if i could listen to it in the car... Is it legal? please gives links to why or why not. 10 points best answer!

Crizzle Gizzle replied: "Logically I would say yes, because if you can have a bluetooth headset on to talk on the phone...you should be able to have 1 headphone on. But in Florida, you cannot. I would expect Iowa to be the same..."

hwinnum replied: "I don't know if it's legal, but it sounds like a bad idea. Why not just use your car stereo/player?"

wizjp replied: "Not in any state in the US Buy an adapter"

Hope replied: "i think you should be able to have one ear in, at a reasonable level, so you can hear whats going on around you. but im not 100% sure could you put it on loudspeaker or use a radio or something? to be on the safer side? help with mine/"
